There are no records of the very early Borzoi breeding in Denmark, but as the ruling classes in Denmark and Russia had close connections, one would not be surprised if Borzois were introduced quite early by the Royalties in to the finer Houses of Copenhagen. In a chapter of the book, \u201cInterEuropean Borzoi Almanach\u201d published by Jo Heller, Jacob Nielsen writes that there were eight Borzois entered at a show in Copenhagen 1888. There are no more records to be found about this.<\/span><\/p>\n

Next are two German imports, made just before the turn of the century,a male\u00a0Kidai<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0and a bitch\u00a0Mylaschka<\/a>\u00a0(Tartar-Mylaschka M\u00f6ckel), that are bought by\u00a0lieutenant\u00a0<\/span>Eugen Colding<\/a>\u00a0Denmark \u00a0These two were bred, but only one registered offspring,\u00a0Russ,<\/a>\u00a0born 1899.<\/p>\n

What is better known is that Denmark in the 1930s played a large role for the Swedish Borzoi. The Art dealer\u00a0Svend V. Hansen<\/a>\u00a0imported Int Ch\u00a0Wladislaw Monasterium<\/a>\u00a0from Germany and\u00a0Lava of Addlestone<\/a>\u00a0from UK. He did a mating between these two under the kennel name \u201cav Wladislaw Monasterium<\/a>\u201d in 1935. Intense linebreeding\u00a0 on these two are done, both in kennel\u00a0Lillemark<\/a>, that 1938 bred\u00a0Ch<\/span>\u00a0 Lillemarks Wladimir<\/a>\u00a0and in Alfred Bruns\u00f6\u2019s\u00a0Helmarh\u00f6j\u2019s<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A puppy from this litter,\u00a0<\/span>Helmarh\u00f6js Pavlova of Eros,<\/a>\u00a0is still to be found in the \u201cswedish line\u201d. Mr Bruns\u00f6 also imported the bitch\u00a0Hrabraya of Addlestone<\/a>\u00a0, and had one litter from her. Then Germany invades Denmark. Some of the Helmarh\u00f6j\u2019s are exported to Mrs\u00a0Dagmar Watz-Olsson<\/a>\u00a0in Sweden and Alfred Bruns\u00f6\u2019s line survives here. Mitzi of Pyenot was also breed to Wladislaw to produce\u00a0Helmarh\u00f6j\u2019s Ivan<\/a>, later exported to Sweden. So was\u00a0Helmarh\u00f6j\u2019s Jan.<\/a>\u00a0He sires three litters, two of them for Emilie Sj\u00f6kvists kennel\u00a0Heimerbergs<\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

One bitch, Ch\u00a0Finis Kickan<\/a>\u00a0were exported to Emily Sj\u00f6kvists\u00a0Heimerberg<\/a>\u00a0kennel in south Sweden. She is\u00a0 breed to\u00a0Helmarh\u00f6j\u2019s Jan<\/a>, but this belongs to the Swedish history.<\/span><\/p>\n

After World War II,\u00a0<\/span>the Borzoi played a rather concealed\u00a0<\/span>role in Denmark. Kennelnames like\u00a0 Gu\u00e5kers, \u00a0Raagemosegaards, Sj\u00f8lunds and Fyrwalds appear, but none did any continues breeding. The Lillemark kennel continues for a long period, breeding sparely, but ended in 1952, breeding a litter out of\u00a0Frimodt\u2019s Maslova<\/a>\u00a0mated to\u00a0Ch<\/span>\u00a0Raagemosegaards Jannik<\/a>, without leaving trace in the future. In the late 1950s some\u00a0Ekhaga<\/a>\u00a0dogs were imported and two of them had litters. Ekhaga Cyrano mated a bitch with Lillemark parents at kennel Sj\u00f6lund in 1959,\u00a0 but also these lines died out.. The sixties saw some English\u00a0Matalona<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Reyas\u00a0<\/a><\/span>stock arrive, but no organized breed\u00ad<\/span>ing was started until the last years\u00a0<\/span>of the 1960s.\u00a0<\/span>Quarantine made it difficult\u00a0<\/span>importing anything but English dogs to Sweden, Norway and Finland, but\u00a0<\/span>Denmark hasn\u2019t this problem. Though\u00a0<\/span>Denmark is very close to Germany,\u00a0<\/span>Holland and Belgium, it\u2019s not these\u00a0<\/span>lines that dominate in Denmark\u00a0<\/span>today.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Top Borzoi\u00a0<\/span>in Denmark 1983 was<\/span>\u00a0Ch Mirni<\/a>, owned by\u00a0Mona & Henry Hansen<\/a>, kennel\u00a0<\/span>Barnekow<\/a>. His litterbrother\u00a0Ch Stiva<\/a>,\u00a0<\/span>owned by Smirnoff was second. They were\u00a0<\/span>out of Ch.\u00a0Bjerglunds Sagar<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<\/span>Moscow import\u00a0Lara<\/a>. The Barnekow\u00a0<\/span>kennels also owned\u00a0a Russian import,\u00a0<\/span>Ch Aksai<\/a>\u00a0who had a French father\u00a0<\/span>and an English\/Russian mother \u2026 a\u00a0<\/span>truly international Borzoi. They did breed two litters. In the first, 1985,\u00a0Smirnoff Andyarif<\/a>\u00a0mated\u00a0Smirnoff Bianca<\/a>, producing among else Ch\u00a0Barnekow Arkow,<\/a>\u00a0who, in his turn, sired a litter for kennel Smirnoff. For the second litter Ch Aksai was used to their swedish import\u00a0Yermoloffs Natalja Dolgorokova,<\/a>\u00a0producing\u00a0Barnekows Baron.<\/a>\u00a0After that the kennel stopped breeding and their lines were vanished.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hj\u00f6rdis Wied-Hansen<\/a>\u00a0started her kennel\u00a0Zarina<\/a>\u00a0in 1982, mating her russian import\u00a0Iriada<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0Borenoff Taimyr<\/a>, owned by\u00a0Jo Heller<\/a>. This produced Denmarks first\u00a0Int Ch, Zarinas Anastasia<\/a>, and also\u00a0Zarinas Anuschka,<\/a>\u00a0that went as studfee to Jo Hellers\u00a0Vorenoff<\/a>\u00a0kennel. Kennel Zarinas built up a truly international kennel with imports from around the world. From Sweden came Majorow\u2019s Gagarin & Aleksei. From Canada,\u00a0Ch Sirhan Shazanna Eleganza<\/a>\u00a0and from Germany\u00a0Borodin aus dem Zarenreich.<\/a>\u00a0Both Eleganza and Borodin were used for breeding, with Borodin siring three litters and Eleganza having one. Many of the Zarinas came to be used by different breeders all over Europa and one, Can Ch\u00a0Zarinas Daphne Sirhan<\/a>\u00a0went in return to Audrey Benbows Sirhan to have two litters for Sirhan in 1991 and -92. Its not easy to pick but to mention some of the most influential Zarinas, the two brothers in the D-litter,\u00a0Int Ch Zarinas Don Juan<\/a>\u00a0, siring a litter for swedish\u00a0Majorow<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Ch Zarinas Diavolo<\/a>, siring four litters in four countries, Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Hungary. In Zarinas G-litter,\u00a0Zarinas Glinka<\/a>\u00a0went to France, kennel Grand Fresnoy, she had one litter for them.\u00a0Ch Zarinas Helios<\/a>\u00a0went to kennel Vorenoff, siring one litter for them and one for kennel St Andrew\u2019s. This produced two Ch-s.\u00a0Lhaghana Aleksej of Alfon<\/a>\u00a0& Anuschka of Alfon. In the next litter, another bitch from\u00a0Rytzar\u2019s, Birka<\/a>\u00a0was mated to dutch\u00a0Favorit van Troybiko<\/a>,\u00a0Lhaghana Barthilla of Favorit<\/a>\u00a0was exported to kennel\u00a0Krestovskij\u2019s<\/span><\/span><\/a>, Sweden. For the kennels D-litter\u00a0Ch Zarinas Jaroff<\/a>\u00a0mated\u00a0Rytzar\u2019s Birka<\/a>\u00a0to produce two US Ch-s\u00a0Lhaghana Darnilo of-Zarina<\/a>\u00a0&\u00a0Dario of-Zarina<\/a>, both very influential for kennel\u00a0Shefaro<\/a>. There were\u00a0\"\"also two Dk Ch-s Lhaghana Daimai of-Zarina &\u00a0Lhaghana Dharkar Of-Zarina,<\/a>\"\"\u00a0both used for future breedings at Lhaghana. In the E-litter\u00a0Lhaghana Elisabeth Of Zarina<\/a>\u00a0went to kennel\u00a0Al Wintar<\/a>\u00a0in Norway. In the H-litter, born 2003,\u00a0Lhaghana Hassanhill<\/a>\u00a0went to Sweden, kennel\u00a0Metelitsa<\/a>. She had two litters in Sweden.\u00a0Ch Lhaghana Jariox of-Zarina<\/a>\u00a0was the last Ch f\u00f6r this kennel, which seems to have stopped breeding 2017.<\/p>\n

Peer Lervad, kennel\u00a0Zaranov<\/a>\u00a0had its first litter in 1987, breeding their swedish import\u00a0Tovarisjtj\u2019s Smarovna<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0Smirnoff Fedjukin<\/a>. For the B-Litter, english import\u00a0Sholwood Serendipity Of Yanjoy<\/a>\u00a0was mated to\u00a0Smirnoff Krasan<\/a>. This produced Int Ch\u00a0Zaranov Bella Pavlova<\/a>\u00a0& Zaranov Beljoska Tarkovskij that sired a litter for Dutch kennel\u00a0Pagranitsjniki, Bella Pavlova had two litters for Zaranov, in the second, mated to\u00a0Smirnoff Xavier<\/a>, Ch\u00a0<\/span>Zaranov Davidka Kutusov<\/a>\u00a0was born. he sired two litters, one for Zaranov, one for German kennel v. d.\u00a0Windhundranch<\/a>. In 2006, the E-litter was born, three Ch-s, including Int Ch\u00a0Zaranov Ekatarina Bellanova,<\/a>\u00a0this was the final litter, in which none went on for the future.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Making a compilation and historical summary, means that you have to make considerations. To facilitate these considerations regarding which kennels should be reported, and which not, I chosed to set the following criteria. 1. Breeding must have started between 1900-2000. 2.\u00a0 At least one Borzoi has went on in breeding before year 2000. If any breeder that meets the criteria is still not included or if you find other mistakes in the text, I would be grateful for information about this, so that it can be corrected.
